Memorising the Holy Qur’an – Step-by-Step Hifdh Guide
Memorising the Qur’an is a beautiful journey that needs patience, consistency, and sincere intention.
Begin by helping children memorise four blessed Surahs: Yaseen, Mulk, Sajdah, and Dukhan.
o Read these Surahs in Nafl prayers on Thursday nights to build love and connection with the Qur’an. This Amal is recommended in Hadith Shareef.
Start the Hifdh journey from Juz 30, then move to Juz 29 and so on
Every Hifdh student should follow three main activities:
o New Sabak: Learning new verses daily.
o Sabki: Revising the recently memorised portion.
§ Morning
§ Before sleeping.
o Dour (Mazil): Long-term revision of all completed parts.
Focus on Tajweed from the very beginning.
o Memorise in small portions, repeat each verse several times, and test yourself without looking.
Useful tips for better memorisation:
o Listen to reliable Qur’an reciters to improve pronunciation and melody.
o Read translations to understand the meaning and strengthen memory.
o Visualise the pages and remember the placement of verses.
o Revise by reciting memorised parts in Salah.
o Have a teacher or partner to correct and motivate you.
Best times to memorise:
o After Fajr (dawn) is the most effective and peaceful time.
o Other good times include Tahajjud, after Asr, or after Isha.
o Choose a time that suits you best and keep it consistent
Note:
o Avoid strict deadlines that create stress.
o Use one Mushaf throughout your Hifdh journey.
o Learn some basic Arabic grammar to understand better.
o Most importantly, live by what you memorise and let the Qur’an guide your life.
